Collaboration Project with Teeside Uni

Excellent day full of inspirational ideas and possible future sources of digital collaborators that could really help students visualise and develop their ICT skills in real contexts. Neil Hannah - Business Incubation Unit, Victoria Building. Prezi presentation on the importance of enterprise to the Uni / UK Economy / future of employment. (see hyperlink at start) 2 business owners present Tom - Coatsink (Games Development Co) - hero worship from students as he programmed part of C.O.D. Ian - E-Shout (Website / Digital Porfolio Co) Both entrepreneurs gave some excellent advice to students who presented their Olympics project work. Tour of both companies office booths Coatsink developing a new X-Box game E-Shout worked with local primary to develop a green blog for young students - stated he love to work with the school again. IDI (Institute of Digital Innovation) Students seen a 80 trk sound studio and full green screen film studio Then very demonstration of some 3D modelling software (very similar to Blender) and quick promos for companies who launched from IDI. Boho Building - Large scale business incubation for long term business set-ups. Tour ran by Mark South who also works for Digital City Teesside very impressive guy who again would love to work with us again in the future. Students were invited in to a company (AMB NS?) who have developed LED lighting system that reacts to screen images / colours - only being marketed at the moment so apparently no-one else in the country has seen this. Other companies in Boho include Double 11 (Software / Games) Annimersion (Graphics / Visualisations) Very worthwhile visit that has reinvigorated my creative juices

Teachers for the 21st Century

Sund Uni - Weds 24th March 2010

Councillor Michael Carr -
Twenty first century teachers: a local authority perspective
Very dry, mostly worked through the "Your children, your schools, our future" (2009) and then presented some ideas about new multi agency collaboration in Middlesbrough that have been put forward for approval.

Dr Philip Ingram -
A view of teaching and teachers in the 21st Century
Head of Southmoor School Sunderland - loud, irish, very funny.
Presented thought that Teachers in 18th, 19th and 20th C. have not changed, front of class - font of all knowledge, control, fixed curriculum.
Future learners will now live into 22nd century so challenge is to create learners, build resilence, make them care, make them demand, develop consensual schools, schools that model the society that we want them to live in.
Ideas how to do this - get off pedestal (no more 'Sir') / model the person that you want them to be / content is fashion - skill is style / the humilty to become a learner / earn consent.
If we dont change then society is on precipice of destruction worldwide - this generation of students need to be the greatest ever to survive and fix societies problems.

Video - http://www.beyondcurrenthorizons.org.uk/ (Futurelab) - Excellent animation video that develops the Shift Happens video further. http://www.futurelab.org.uk/resources/multimedia/video/Video1589

http://www.futurelab.org.uk/

Paul Threadgall -
The one children’s workforce
Developed ideas of how this is working and vision for safe guarding students in all schools, used a lot of information from "Childrens Plan and ECM'

6.05
June Foster –
Creating leaders for 21st Century schools
Excellent David Putnam film = We are the people http://www.wearethepeoplemovie.com/

Presented Learners Charter http://www.futurelab.org.uk/resources/multimedia/video/Video1192

Discussed the possiblities of senior leadership and how responsibilty of role is outweighed by 90% of head enjoyment of the role.
